Seeing the person.
Not just the image.

Clinical care. Scientific curiosity.
A commitment to the next generation.

Andrea “Andi” Senter, MD, is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the UNC School of Medicine, where she practices breast imaging and directs the Breast Imaging Fellowship.

She earned her medical degree at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, completed both her residency and her fellowship at UNC, and is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology. After approximately eight years in community practice, she returned to UNC in 2024 and has practiced there since, in the Department of Radiology’s Division of Breast Imaging in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. That experience shapes an approach grounded in thoughtful clinical judgment, clear communication, and respect for the person behind every study.

Her work connects the reading room, the research team, and the classroom: caring for patients, asking practical questions about breast diagnosis, and helping future radiologists develop their expertise.

Outside the reading room, she is a co-founder and Executive Director of BeeReady (opens in a new tab), a Durham, North Carolina 501(c)(3) nonprofit that trains children and adult volunteers in CPR and AED use so youth sporting events have a prepared sideline response.

AWAY FROM WORK

Andi is married to an amazing husband, Matt Senter (opens in a new tab), a super handsome and successful technology entrepreneur, and is the mother of 3 rambunctious boys, 2 of whom she had during residency. She is an avid runner and enjoys documentaries, especially true crime.

FEATURED FUNDED PROJECT

Optimizing Core Sampling Through Diagnostic Stability in Tomosynthesis-Guided Biopsy of Architectural Distortion

How much tissue sampling is needed to reach a stable, actionable diagnosis? This prospective study examines sequential sampling during tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsy, with the goal of informing more evidence-based clinical decisions.

AWARD PERIOD –

Collaborative by design. The entire Breast Imaging division is participating as co-investigators, bringing shared clinical experience to a practical research question.

Expertise grows
when it’s shared.

From a first rotation to a fellowship year, meaningful education is built through hands-on experience, thoughtful feedback, and relationships that last.

Connect about education

Fellowship leadership

As Breast Imaging Fellowship Program Director, Andi leads curriculum development, recruitment, and a multidisciplinary learning experience for fellows at UNC.

Medical student education

She directs the breast imaging medical student elective and the Radiology Acting Internship, helping students build clinical understanding and explore a future in radiology.

Mentorship that connects

Connecting learners with research projects, faculty mentors, and career guidance is an integral part of her work, from medical school through fellowship.

Who directs the Breast Imaging Fellowship at UNC?

Andi Senter, MD, directs the Breast Imaging Fellowship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, within the Department of Radiology’s Division of Breast Imaging in Chapel Hill. As Program Director she leads curriculum development and fellow recruitment, and shapes a multidisciplinary training year built on hands-on reading-room experience and thoughtful feedback. Fellows work across the full range of breast imaging she practices: mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided biopsy. Her own path informs the program. She trained at UNC, spent approximately eight years in community practice, and returned to the university in 2024, so she teaches from both academic and community perspectives. Beyond the fellowship she directs the breast imaging medical student elective and the Radiology Acting Internship, and connects learners with research projects and faculty mentors. Her Breast SPORE-funded study includes the entire Breast Imaging division as co-investigators, giving trainees exposure to collaborative research.
